Jalapeno Dreamin'
Over the past month, Doug has been growing vegetables in his pot garden. Pretty intense operation he has going. I sit while he man's over his plants trying to understand why he sometimes comes outside and just stares at them. Literally, just staring away. At first when he brought these plants to my attention I didn't really know what the hell they were. So he sat me down as I was jabbering away how I haven't been traveling much these days. And I haven't seen Shelley what seems like decades. I have conquered so many territories in the time gap that I have missed Shelley. He told me to "pipe down". Pipe down", I exclaim!! What the, who the heck...OK OK I will shuddup and listen to him.
He continued and overwhelmed me with information about growing food, organic processes, times tables for growth, and when the expected first so called harvest. YAWN! I really need some rum at this point. Aaaarrgghhh...I asked him what kinds of food he is growing. He said tomatoes, basil, cilantro, jalapeno peppers (hot and mild) JALAPENO PEPPERS!! Woo hoo!! I remember those from my sailing days. As a matter of fact that's how I got this here peg leg. One of the crew mates and I were talking about how these peppers would go well with just about any type of food there is and give it a little spicy twist. As we're walking the ship, one of the crew mates was repairing the ship from a battle we got obliterated in. I slipped on a banana peel and wammo my leg got punctured by one of his tools. Ouch ouch ouch!! Medic said there was no hope and we must amputate. Yes, after that mishap rum became my friend. :)
Now back to the vegetables. As time passed, I started noticing the plants becoming bigger. And now they are showing blooms. the tomatoes actually have fruit appearing and that harvest most likely will be in a couple of weeks. But the real test is whether the peppers will taste just like I remember. More to come..Until then, eat, drink, and be merry!!
